Kaupapa cards

What is a good idea, and where do they come from? Most designers generally forget more good ideas than ever come to fruition – but we think this is a good one. ‘Designer’ Te Reo cards using Aotearoa New Zealand-made typefaces. Kaupapa cards are not ‘salvage’ - just high quality design and production.

Joseph Churchward (who sadly died recently a Samoan-born Kiwi who has been drawing type for most of his 85 years. All hand-drawn at the start, he has produced around 600 typefaces. While very few have been digitised for use by contemporary designers, we decided they would be ideal to use on our cards.

Printed on TCF card and hot foil stamped for maximum impact and a high quality look and feel, they are each presented with a unique envelope subtly printed with a tohu (design) by prominent Ngati Whatua artist Bernard Makoare.

At the moment there are only six different cards, but we intend to extend the range, adding more occasion choices with different styles as time and resources allow.

Buy locally made and support Te Reo when you send a card. As they say, any occasion can be a special occasion with Kaupapa cards.
